A new political movement, the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), has been launched with a pledge to reposition Nigeria through a strong ideological framework anchored on reform, innovation, and people-focused governance.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Samuel M. Memeh, and National Publicity Secretary, Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr., the party said its emergence was driven by growing economic challenges, insecurity, and what it described as systemic governance failure.

The DLA said it is founded on the principles of Pan-Africanism, ethical leadership, scientific advancement, and citizen-centered governance, noting that these ideals would shape its policy direction.

The party advocated a comprehensive restructuring of Nigeria’s economy, calling for a transition from a consumption-driven model to one rooted in production and innovation. It said its agenda would prioritise industrialisation, local manufacturing, and investment in science and technology, alongside creating an enabling environment for youth-led enterprises.

According to the statement, sustainable development requires deliberate policies that empower citizens to generate wealth and opportunities.

On insecurity, particularly within the agricultural sector, the DLA raised concerns over the destruction of farmlands and displacement of farming communities in parts of the country. It called for urgent legislative and policy interventions to protect farmers and enhance food production.

The party also advocated stricter regulation of cattle movement nationwide and a transition to structured ranching, insisting that operators in the livestock sector must be held accountable. It stressed that the issue goes beyond security, touching on food security, economic stability, and national survival.

The DLA urged Nigerians, especially youths and professionals, to align with its vision, describing its formation as a platform for national renewal and collective responsibility.

Its unveiling comes as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the next election cycle, with new entrants seeking to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
