It was gathered that some aspirants in the Edo APC have been approached not to purchase the nomination form for the purpose of party’s unity.
Hon Afeso said the decision to step down followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and supporters across Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency.
Speaking at a press briefing to announced his withdrawal from the race, Hon Adeso said he would join forces with Governor Okpebholo to deliver the 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next year's general elections.
He said his political structure would be fully aligned with the APC campaign framework, with a unified focus on strengthening the party’s electoral performance at all levels.
Afeso explained that his withdrawal from the election was rooted in a shared commitment to progress, unity, and strategic collaboration.
According to him, "Governor Okpebholo’s leadership and developmental strides provide a strong foundation to mobilize widespread grassroots support.
"My working together with the governor and party leaders will significantly enhance efforts to achieve the ambitious target of 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu.
"The realistic and necessary goal is to consolidate democratic gains and sustain national development.
"My supporters across wards and polling units are fully prepared to integrate into the broader APC structure, ensuring coordinated mobilization and voter engagement ahead of the elections."
He said this alignment could play a crucial role in boosting the APC’s grassroots strength in Edo State.
