PDP governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, has said the outcome of the June 20, 2026, election will be determined by voters, not political elites or endorsements.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Gani Salau, Oluyede rejected claims that the poll would be a “coronation” for Governor Biodun Oyebanji, describing such assertions as “self-indulgent and intellectually dishonest.”
He warned that portraying the election as predetermined is undemocratic and could discourage voter participation, stressing that leadership must emerge through the people’s mandate.
“Ekiti is not a kingdom, and June 20, 2026, cannot be reduced to a coronation. It will be a contest of ideas, credibility and the free will of the people,” he said.
Oluyede also dismissed narratives suggesting the election had already been decided, noting that Ekiti voters have a history of making independent choices.

He criticised attempts to portray the APC-led administration as flawless, citing challenges such as poor infrastructure, unemployment, and struggling businesses.
Describing claims that voters would treat the election casually as “offensive,” he urged political actors to act with humility and called on the media, security agencies, and electoral bodies to ensure a credible process.
He also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and participate without fear.
“Ekiti belongs to its people. June 20, 2026, will not be a coronation, but a decision by the people,” he added.
