Eleme Council boss declares war against drug abuse

The Chairman of Eleme Local Government in Rivers State, Chief Obarilomate Ollor, has declared zero tolerance for abuse of hard drugs in the council.
He spoke while reconstituting Eleme Youth Council (EYC) at Nchia, the ancestral home of Eleme people.
The chairman cautioned youths against involvement in cultism and drug abuse, describing the vices as major impediments to personal and community development.
He announced the commencement of operations to clamp down on illegal drug activities across the council, stressing that the government would not tolerate any form of criminality.
He said: “From this week, we will begin operations to shut down all locations where drugs are being sold. Many youths are unable to realise their potential due to addiction. This must stop”.
Ollor hailed youths of Eleme for their cooperation, saying it had contributed to the peace in the area.

He said his administration was putting in place mechanism to sustain and strengthen the peace. The chairman noted that his administration was set to fulfil its promise of empowering young people across the council.
He said his personal journey through the youth leadership structure shaped his resolve to create opportunities for the next generation.
Said he: “I am a product of the Youth Council, and I understand the importance of giving young people the right platform to thrive. If you do well at the grassroots, you can rise to lead.”
Ollor dissolved the Eleme Youth Council and announced the constitution of a more inclusive structure, explaining that the reconstituted council would comprise youth presidents from the 10 clans of Eleme.
He said the council would also consist of newly created wings to cover women, security wing, employment and empowerment.
He said the restructuring followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political leaders and community representatives, to ensure the process aligned with the constitutional and traditional framework of Eleme people.
He said: “The new Youth Council reflects the true structure of our people and will serve as a unified voice for all youths in Eleme,” adding that relevant security agencies and institutions would be formally notified of the new leadership.
The chairman directed security operatives, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and Area Commander, to enforce government’s directives and threatened to arrest anyone contravening established policies.
Ollor also inaugurated the newly-constructed Eleme Motor Park to enhance transportation and improve commercial activities in the area.
