A former leader of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Federal University Dutse, Prof. Salim Abdurrahman Lawan, has commenced the distribution of food items to vulnerable households in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State as part of Ramadan welfare support.

The exercise was inaugurated in Jikas town, the headquarters of Maruta Political Ward, where Lawan stated that the initiative was designed to ease the economic burden on families during the holy month of fasting and prayer.

Lawan, who served as the pioneer Commissioner in the Jigawa State Ministry of Livestock Management, said the intervention would extend to all 11 political wards in the council area.

“This is just the beginning in Maruta Ward. Items meant for the remaining 10 wards have already been dispatched to their respective headquarters,” he said.

He described the outreach as an expression of solidarity with residents, noting that Ramadan presents an opportunity to assist the less privileged and reinforce communal ties.

According to him, the distribution marks the first phase of a broader humanitarian programme expected to reach additional beneficiaries in the coming weeks. He assured that all wards in Gwaram would receive similar support, reiterating his commitment to enhancing the welfare of the people.

Each polling unit received sacks of sugar, maize, beans, and millet for onward distribution to deserving families. Village heads and Juma’at Imams were also included in the outreach.

Community leaders and beneficiaries commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, and called on other public-spirited individuals to emulate the gesture.
