Public sector reform advocate and former Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has called for stronger female participation in party leadership and governance following a meeting with women leaders of APC from Oyo State.

The engagement took place on the sidelines of APC National Convention in Abuja and brought together key figures in the women’s wing of the party to deliberate on ways to deepen grassroots mobilisation, improve internal party coordination, and expand opportunities for women in leadership positions in Oyo State.

Participants described the discussions as constructive and forward-looking, with a focus on strengthening institutional role of women in APCs decision-making structures.

Observers noted that the engagement underscored the growing recognition of women as critical stakeholders in party organisation, community mobilisation, and governance. Discussions highlighted the need to build a more inclusive political culture that adequately reflects the contributions of women in the state.

Gbadegesin lauded the women leaders for their dedication to party development and sustained community engagement, stressing that the future of meaningful political progress in Oyo State would depend on the active involvement of women at every level of leadership.

Among those in the meeting were Oyo State APC Women Leader, Mrs. Felicia Opatunde; State Deputy Women Leader, Alhaja Fatima Hassan; former member of Oyo State House of Assembly, Dr. Adepeju Esan; and former lawmaker, Alhaja Ramota Okemakinde, with other senior women leaders in the party’s structure.

Stakeholders at the convention said the meeting is part of wider consultations among party leaders and delegates aimed at fostering unity and strengthening cohesion ahead of political activities in Oyo.
