Jubilation trailed the declaration of councillorship results in Nyanyan in the early hours of Sunday as the Independent National Electoral Commission returned the All Progressives Congress candidate, Idi Jonathan, elected.

Announcing the outcome, the Returning Officer, Jibril Mohammad, said Jonathan polled 2,552 votes to defeat Danjuma Yare of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 1,797 votes.

Other candidates trailed behind, including Onejeme Cyril of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 84 votes; Adamu Ojonuba of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), 29; Ekwueme Obinna of the Accord Party, 34; and Salisu Mohammad of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), 12 votes.

Supporters of the APC candidate erupted in celebration at about 3.00 am when the PDP’s figures were announced, momentarily drowning out the remaining declaration, although no friction was recorded among party agents and supporters at the collation centre.

Commenting on the outcome, APC Returning Officer for Nyanyan Ward, Emmanuel Nyiang, said,

“Even before the final result was announced by INEC, we already had the authentic figures from our situation room because we had received results from all 110 polling units.

"We had actually started celebrating and congratulating ourselves about three hours earlier, because we were comfortably ahead. What we are seeing now has only confirmed what we already knew, and we are truly happy".

The party chieftain commented on the stakeholders and the voters for the conduct of the polls, saying, "First and foremost, we are grateful to the media for reporting exactly what they saw at the polling units. The security agencies also did very well.

"There was peace everywhere. Abuja residents came out to vote in a calm and orderly atmosphere. By the grace of God, this is one of the most peaceful elections we have witnessed in the Abuja Municipal Area Council and the FCT in general.”

He said the outcome of the FCT polls has reinforced the party's belief of the party in its victory in the 2027 general elections.

“I can assure you that, by the grace of God, this election has shown that Nigerians appreciate the efforts of this government to reposition the country.

"It also means that people are watching and taking note of the hard but necessary decisions this administration is making to return us to the path of growth and development as a nation,” Nyiang added.

In Karu Ward, the APC candidate, Robo Nuhu, polled 2,080 votes to defeat PDP’s Yeminya Godwin, who secured 1,537 votes, and Mustapha Ibrahim of the ADC, who got 421 votes.

Nuhu was declared the winner by the INEC Returning Officer, Abubakar Amina.

Similarly, the APC candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) defeated other candidates in the Nyanyan and Karu wards with 2,552 and 2,554 votes, respectively.
