More than an hour after voting was scheduled to begin in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, accreditation and voting had not commenced at Kubwa Polling Units 004 and 047.

The Presiding Officer, Ereh Patience, told a correspondent that the delay was caused by “issues at the camp where we lodged,” but declined to give further details.

When asked when the process would start, she said, “We are about to start.”

As of the time of filing this report, an Assistant Presiding Officer was still pasting the voters’ register with the assistance of an agent of the All Progressives Congress.

A voter who asked not to be named expressed frustration over the delay, saying he arrived at the polling unit at 8:00 a.m., ahead of the scheduled start time, while election officials arrived around 8:30 a.m.

“It is unfortunate. I have been here since 8:00 a.m., and the PO and the rest of the staff just arrived a while ago. This is 9:42 a.m., and it is yet to start. It is really unfortunate,” he said.

At Polling Unit 047, voting had also not commenced as of 9:52 a.m., with Assistant Presiding Officers seen setting up the voting booth.

It was gathered that the PO “stepped out” at the time of writing this report, while agents said they had yet to meet with the officer.
