The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, Olusola Odumosu, on Saturday warned officers against accidental discharges as they monitor and secure voters during the FCT Area Council elections holding today.

Addressing personnel ahead of the polls across the six Area Councils, Odumosu emphasised the need for “professionalism in the discharge of their duties.”

He directed officers to avoid “accidental discharges” while on election duty and to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the exercise.

More than 1.5 million registered voters in the FCT are heading to the polls to elect chairmen and councillors across the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, and Kwali.

A total of 68 positions are being contested, comprising six chairmanship seats and 62 councillorship roles.

To ensure adequate security before, during, and after the elections, the NSCDC said it had deployed 4,000 personnel across the territory.
