... As Presidential team inspects Northwest infrastructure projects
The Federal Government has said the Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi railway project has reached about 60 per cent completion, with delivery scheduled for December 2027.
Resident Engineer of the Federal Ministry of Transportation for Section Two of the project, Engr. Ali Bukar, disclosed this during an inspection visit by the Presidential Media Team in Jigawa State.
The team, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Mr Sunday Dare, toured the project as part of an ongoing assessment of federal and state government initiatives across the North-West under the Renewed Hope Ambassadors programme.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, Bukar said construction had recorded steady progress across the two major corridors of the rail line, noting that work has intensified on critical segments, particularly the Kano–Dutse axis.
He explained that major engineering activities are currently focused on bridge construction across waterways and difficult terrains, with foundation works such as piling and substructure development already at advanced stages.
He said “superstructure installations are ongoing in multiple locations,” reflecting the pace of work on the project.

The engineer further disclosed that significant milestones have been achieved along the approximately 104-kilometre Kano–Jigawa stretch, as well as the branch line linking Kano to Dutse.
He added that track laying, earthworks, and other structural components are progressing steadily along both alignments.
Bukar attributed the progress to sustained funding under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure scheme, which he said has ensured continuity and efficiency in project execution.
The rail project, when completed, is expected to enhance regional connectivity, facilitate trade, and boost economic activities between Nigeria and neighbouring Niger Republic.
Beyond the rail inspection, the Presidential Media Team also toured key infrastructure projects undertaken by state governments in Kano and Jigawa.
In Kano State, the team visited the interchange flyover bridge at Tal-Udu in Gwale Local Government Area, as well as an ongoing concrete waterline project from the Kapin Chiri Dam in Garko Local Government Area aimed at supporting irrigation farming.
In Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the team inspected the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Skills Acquisition Centre and reviewed tractors procured by the state government to strengthen agricultural productivity.
