The Federal Government has said the Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi railway project is about 60 per cent complete.
It has scheduled the completion of the project for December 2027.
The Resident Engineer in the Federal Ministry of Transportation for Section Two of the project, Ali Bukar, announced this during an inspection visit by the Presidential Media Team in Jigawa State.
The team, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare, toured the project as part of an ongoing assessment of federal and state government initiatives across the Northwest under the Renewed Hope Ambassadors programme.
A statement yesterday in Abuja by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, said Bukar announced that construction had recorded steady progress across the two major corridors of the rail line.
The resident engineer said work had intensified on critical segments of the project, particularly the Kano–Dutse axis.
He explained that major engineering activities were focused on bridge construction across waterways and difficult terrains, with foundation works, such as piling and substructure development, already at advanced stages.

He said: “Superstructure installations are ongoing in multiple locations,” based on the pace of work on the project.
Bukar also announced that significant milestones have been achieved along the approximately 104-kilometre Kano–Jigawa stretch, as well as the branch line linking Kano to Dutse.
The resident engineer stated that track-laying, earthworks, and other structural components were progressing steadily along both alignments.
He attributed the progress to sustained funding under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure scheme, which he said has ensured continuity and efficiency in project execution.
The rail project, when completed, is expected to enhance regional connectivity, facilitate trade, and boost economic activities between Nigeria and the neighbouring Niger Republic.
Beyond the rail inspection, the Presidential Media Team also toured key infrastructure projects undertaken by state governments in Kano and Jigawa states.
In Kano State, the team visited the interchange flyover bridge at Tal-Udu in Gwale Local Government Area, as well as an ongoing concrete waterline project from the Kapin Chiri Dam in Garko Local Government Area to support irrigation farming.
In Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the team inspected the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Skills Acquisition Centre and reviewed tractors procured by the state government to strengthen agricultural productivity.
