An agro-allied processing company, IfGreen Industries and Investment, has inaugurated a hybrid solar photovoltaic (PV) system and battery energy storage system (BESS).

The project, in partnership with Grosolar and financed with support from CleanEnergyFund of FundCo, is expected to provide uninterrupted 24-hour electricity to IFGreen’s operations.

The ceremony was attended by IFGreen’s leadership team, led by Chief Executive Peter Okonkwo and representatives of Grosolar, led by Abiodun Oni.

Officials said the renewable energy solution will enable IFGreen to reduce energy costs while improving operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.

For more than four years, the company relied on diesel generators due to unreliable grid power supply in Epe, a situation that led to high fuel procurement costs and operational challenges.

With the hybrid solar and battery system in operation, IFGreen expects to achieve year-on-year savings on energy expenses, greater predictability in power costs, and improved returns on its agro-processing investments. The system will also ensure reliable year-round electricity, allowing the facility to operate at full capacity.

The company noted that the shift to renewable energy would also reduce carbon emissions and strengthen its environmental footprint.

According to IFGreen, the cost savings generated from the project will be reinvested into strategic growth initiatives, including job creation and expansion of agro-processing activities.

The company is also planning to expand into circular economy solutions as part of its long-term sustainability strategy. Future plans include converting agro-processing waste into biogas to further cut production costs and improve operational margins.

Industry observers say the initiative highlights the growing role of renewable energy in supporting Nigeria’s agro-processing sector amid persistent challenges with grid electricity supply.

IFGreen said the milestone underscores its commitment to sustainable growth, environmental responsibility, and inclusive economic development in Nigeria’s food processing industry.
