First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Christian leaders to focus on preaching the true gospel of Christ rather than merely delivering motivational messages.
She made the call on Friday while receiving the Global Executive Chairman of the Lausanne Movement, Dr. Michael Oh, and members of his delegation at her office in Abuja.
Mrs Tinubu emphasised that people of faith have a crucial role to play in supporting the nation’s progress as the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu works to rebuild Nigeria’s foundation for future generations.
The First Lady said Christians must live exemplary lives and remain spiritually prepared for the coming of Christ, while also guiding younger generations in moral and spiritual values.
“We as Christian leaders and followers should be watchmen, living our lives in readiness of the coming of Christ and we the church teaching younger generations virtues”, she said.
She noted that the present administration is focused on laying a solid national foundation that would benefit generations to come.
“The President is focused on laying a strong foundation for the country, and when the foundation is strong, those coming after will only need to build on it”, she said.
Drawing parallels with President Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State, she added that visionary leadership and shared responsibility can transform societies.
“This is just like what we met when he was Governor of Lagos State and the story is different today in the state. This task will be much easier with more religious understanding”, she said.

Speaking earlier, Dr. Michael Oh described the Lausanne Movement as a global evangelical initiative established in 1974 by renowned evangelist Billy Graham to unite Christians around the world for evangelisation.
He stressed that evangelism goes beyond church pulpits and must also be demonstrated through everyday conduct.
“There is only one per cent of us Christians in the world who are evangelists and preachers, but the real gospel will be preached by the remaining 99 per cent in the marketplace, in politics, and in homes by our way of life and conduct,” he said.
Dr. Oh commended the First Lady for what he described as her exemplary leadership and commitment to faith-driven service.
“We see you, Your Excellency, already doing that,” he said, describing Mrs Tinubu as “the Esther of her generation”.
He urged Christians to lead with humility, service and love, adding that Africa holds a strategic place in the future of global Christianity.
“Africa is the future of global evangelism and indeed the next leader of global Christianity,” he said.
