A former senator representing Oyo Central and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Ayoade Adeseun, has resigned his position as Mayegun of Ogbomosoland following his suspension by the Soun of Ogbomoso, Ghandi Olaoye.
Adeseun said there was no need for the monarch to reverse the suspension, declaring that he had chosen to step down from the traditional title.

Speaking with journalists at his residence in Ogbomoso, the former lawmaker, who served in the Senate between 2011 and 2015, attributed his decision to what he described as the monarch’s high-handedness.
The suspension was conveyed in a letter dated March 23, 2026, signed by palace secretary Toyin Ajamu, citing alleged insubordination, disregard for authority and persistent disrespect to the throne. The palace said the action was necessary to protect the dignity of the traditional institution.
Reacting, Adeseun maintained that he was unwilling to engage the monarch, accusing him of pursuing divisive policies capable of undermining unity in Ogbomosoland.
He also criticised what he described as attempts to introduce religious division in the community, insisting that Christians and Muslims had coexisted peacefully prior to the monarch’s ascension.
Adeseun further referenced an ongoing legal dispute involving the Chief Imam of Ayilara, urging the monarch to allow the court to determine the matter in line with the rule of law.
