An aide to former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, Comrade Femi Awogboro, has dismissed reports suggesting that Adelabu resigned against the wishes of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Awogboro stated that Adelabu obtained the full approval and blessing of the President before taking the decision to step down.
In a statement, Awogboro explained that beyond Adelabu’s longstanding governorship ambition, he had previously demonstrated a willingness to sacrifice position for public service, citing his voluntary resignation as Deputy Governor (Operations) at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

He urged those spreading what he described as false speculation to desist, noting that such claims are unfounded.
According to him, critics have no substantive issues against Adelabu and are unsettled by the large turnout that welcomed him back to Ibadan last Thursday.
Awogboro maintained that residents of Oyo State are now urging Adelabu to lead, driven by a shared vision of restoring the state’s status as the “Pace Setter.”
He said Adelabu’s decision was motivated by a passion to serve and contribute meaningfully to society, adding that stepping down from office when necessary has never been difficult for him.
Awogboro further noted that Adelabu does not take major decisions lightly, as he consistently seeks guidance from God and counsel from his father and mentor, President Tinubu.

He emphasised that the resignation was not in any way contrary to the President’s wishes, but was carried out with his full consent, approval, and support.
He added that calls for Adelabu to contest have continued to grow across the state, citing his track record, grassroots appeal, and commitment to local government development.
Awogboro also pointed to the reception that greeted Adelabu’s arrival at Alakia Airport in Ibadan on April 23, where supporters from across the 33 local government areas turned out in large numbers, reflecting what he described as widespread acceptance of his ambition.
