•Mourns late Senator Barinada Mpigi

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has paid glowing tributes to his king of the ancient Kingdom in Opobo, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, who died at 83.

Fubara, who spoke at the Funeral Service of the late King at the St. Paul's Anglican Church, Opobo, on Saturday, described the departed king as a successful man, who accomplished his work.

He said King Jaja was a peaceful man, who remained calm even during the battle for his throne that lasted over 20 years.

"He kept his cool and the kingdom was peaceful. I describe him as a man of class and dignity. He was a man, who treated everyone as a son and daughter without discrimination. So, today we celebrate him with fulfillment as someone, who had finished his work", the governor said.

The governor asked the new Amayanabo-elect to chart his own path and establish his legacy instead of trying to fill the shoes left by the late king.

He expressed confidence that the new king would do good work in the kingdom saying posterity would all tell a wonderful story about him.

Fubara said paying tributes to the king after his departure was an honour done to his government noting that besides the historic King Jaja and other Chiefs, who founded Opobo, the late king Douglas Jaja was the only one that left another significant mark.

He said: "First during his reign we had a deputy governor and a governor. History will never forget him. I urge our academia to document this, as King Dandeson Douglas Jaja is the King that came, saw even in the most turbulent water and conquered successfully", he said.

Advising the family of the late king, Fubara said: "What you inherit is assets, you don't inherit success. King has done his part, what we are describing here is his success and it is not transferable to anybody. You all need to work for your own success.

"So if you have that in mind you won't have any crisis in the family. Therefore take that as a guide. He is a peaceful man, he will be very sorrowful wherever he is, if he sees his family in disarray fighting over nothing.

"When I mean nothing, fighting over what will be valueless in the next 25 years because we are talking about new development. So, work for your own success."

A statement signed by Fubara's Chief of Staff (CPS), Onwuka Nzeshi, said the governor on Friday night, joined others to mourn the late Senator Barinada Barry Mpigi, who until his demise, represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District at the National Assembly.

Speaking at the Service of Songs held at the Missionary Anglican Church, Koroma, in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, Fubara described the deceased as a man, who lived a great life.

According to the governor, the late Mpigi was a fighter who would be remembered for the great work he did while on earth.

Alluding to the mystery of life, Fubara said that death is the ultimate end of every human existence, and there is nothing anyone can do when the clock of life stops.

He urged the family of the departed politician to take heart as they mourn the loss of their bread winner, stressing that it is only God that can console them and fill the vacuum he left behind.

Fubara recalled that he had earlier sent a condolence letter to the family of the bereaved and visited them in the wake of the sad news of Mpigi's passage.

He said: "I did a condolence letter and in my condolence letter, I did express myself about the man we are honouring this night the way I understand him, and the way I see him.

"But this evening, I will say that there are things we have control over. Death is the ultimate end of everything. We have nothing to do about it; we can neither add nor subtract to our life span. When it (death) comes, it has come.

"He lived a great life. He was a fighter that his time has come and gone.  We would remember him for the great works he did.
