Team GTI Group has emerged as the pioneer champions of the maiden Industrial and Commerce Cup, delivering a commanding performance over the weekend at the golf section of the prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938. The GTI squad secured the title with a cumulative gross score of 303, navigating the greens with precision to etch their names into the tournament’s history books.

The winning side was anchored by former Ikoyi Club golf captain Bayo Ali, playing off a handicap of 9, who attributed the victory to a synergy of skill and mental fortitude. Following the trophy presentation, Ali remarked that being the winner of the inaugural edition was a significant honor, crediting the bond and discipline of his teammates for the success. The championship-winning lineup featured Ali alongside Joachim Ebegue Afe (5), Abubakar Lawal (14), and Paul Tijani (11).

The tournament was the brainchild of industrialist and avid golfer Pamela Wu, who envisioned the event as a strategic bridge between two influential sectors. Wu stated that industrial leaders benefit from the unique demographic that golf attracts, describing the event as an attempt to stimulate progressive conversation through the game. She noted that golf provides a specialized platform to shape critical discussions affecting the broader landscapes of industry and commerce.

The competition for the podium was decided by narrow margins. The team representing AIAH Sausage Limited Company—comprising Mayomile Orumgbeja (14), Ronke Iyiola (16), Toluwalashe Balogun (24), and Ademola Banu (23)—secured the runner-up trophy with a total net score of 304. They were followed closely by Xpress Payment Solution Ltd, represented by Babatunde Oyelami (7), Destiny Oyero (7), Diana Osmond (10), and Jimoh Ogunsote (8), who carded a total of 307 to take third place.

Lagos State’s Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, Folashade Kaosarat Ambrose-Medebem, highlighted the importance of the initiative during the closing ceremonies. She emphasized that the event aligns with the state government's mandate to provide robust platforms for driving trade and investment.

Ambrose-Medebem further noted that such initiatives support the vision of transforming Lagos into the primary commercial hub of the continent, maintaining its status as the top-ranked environment in Nigeria for ease of doing business.
