All is set for the screening of Rivers State Governor Siminalaiyi Fubara’s nine commissioner-nominees  by the House of Assembly today .

Speaker Martins Amaewhule has asked them to appear before the Assembly.

On March 3, the assembly disclosed that it received a list of nine nominees from the governor and invited the beneficiaries to send their credentials for screening.

A statement  by the Clerk of the House, Dr Emeka Amadi asked the nominees to submit 40 sets of their Curriculum vitae in preparation for their screening.

They were also asked to bring  photocopies of their credentials and evidence of compliance with tax obligations to the office of the clerks.

The development led to expectations  that the House would begin the screening any time it reconvened for plenary.

But on March 5, the House reconvened but failed to begin the screening.

The House rather administered the oaths of allegiance and the oaths of membership on the two newly elected members, Napoleon Ukalikpe Nyemodumakpo, representing Ahoada East Constituency II and  Bulabari Henrietta Loolo, representing Khana Constituency II.

But yesterday,  a statement  by Amadi  asked the nominees to appear on March 9 (today) for their screening.

The statement said: “All the nominees for appointment as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council are invited to appear before the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation”.

They were asked to appear at the Rivers State House of Assembly Chamber, Assembly Quarters, Port Harcourt at 10am.

The nominees are  Prof. Datonye Alasia, Mr. Tonye Bellgam, Prof. Temple Nwofor, Dr. Peters Nwagor, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams,  Mr. Lekue Kenneth, Otonye TKD Amachree and  Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.

On February 12, Fubara announced the dissolution  of his executive council, days after Presisent Bola Ahmed Tinubu brokered a fresh peace deal to end the prolonged political crisis in the state.

After days of lobbying and horse trading, Fubara on February 26 appointed a new Chief of Staff, Sunny Ewule and Secretary to State Government (SSG), Dr Dagogo Wokoma.

About 20 days after sacking his exco members, Fubara transmitted what many described as a first batch of his commissioner nominees to the House of Assembly.
