Contemporary poet and author, Ruth Peters, has said literature can serve as a tool for cultural diplomacy and cross-border dialogue.

She spoke when she headlined a lagoon-side luncheon and literature reading  at the Ikoyi home of German consul general in Lagos.

The event, which brought together the diplomatic community, cultural stakeholders and other guests, highlighted the role of arts in strengthening German-Nigerian relations.

Through a reading of her works, Peters explored themes of identity, heritage, longing and cultural memory, blending personal experiences with broader socio-political reflections.

Her presentation, described by attendees as engaging and thought-provoking, underscored poetry’s relevance in shaping conversations beyond borders.

Peters, a member of The Conclave Club, reinforced the recognition of creatives as key contributors to diplomatic and intellectual engagements.

The luncheon featured interactions among guests, many of who reflected on the significance of artistic exchange in fostering mutual understanding and deepening international cooperation.

Organisers said the initiative aligns with efforts to promote cultural engagement as a pathway to strengthening bilateral relations between Germany and Nigeria.
