Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Phillip Agbese, said on Tuesday that despite dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Labour Party (LP), he remains committed to the ideas of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Agbese said in an interview shortly after his defection was announced that he would continue to support the president and his transformative policies, adding that he did not leave the APC because of any existing problem with anybody.

He dismissed speculations that he was joining the Labour Party because he is nursing the ambition to contest the Governorship election in Benue state.

While saying contesting the Governorship election may be a plan, he said his decision to join the Labour Party was taken by his constituents, who believe that he will best represent them on the Labour Party platform.

He said since joining the LP, over 7000 people have registered with the party, more than any other political party in the area, insisting that the APC was only able to register about 5000 during its last registration exercise.

The Benue Lawmaker commended the National Chairman of the party, Senator Nenadi Usman, and Abia state governor, Alex Otti, for accepting him into the party and working to reposition it.

He said while the party will field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 elections, he will work to ensure the re-election of President Tinubu if the national leadership decides to adopt the President as its candidate.

Agbese is the first APC Lawmaker to defect to the opposition in the 10th Assembly and the only LP Lawmaker from Benue state.
