Games Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938, Segun Olajide, has expressed joy over the response of young tennis players taking part in the ongoing Easter Holiday Tennis Clinic.

The event which started on April 7 at the Tennis Courts of the club, will end on Saturday, April 11, with a tournament for all the participants.

As it was during the Clinic, the Boys and Girls categories of the tournament will be in four categories which are the 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, and 14- 16, respectively.

Olajide, however, showered praises on the participating youngsters for showing so much dedication and passion for tennis.

“We noticed the eagerness and excitement with which the children approached training classes.  We observed every one of them putting in extra efforts to make each shot better than the previous one while also learning to hit the ball accurately across the net.

“Also, noticeable were the streaks of ingenuity and competitiveness emerging as the children are hitting the balls harder and faster, making it tougher for their mates to return the balls. We even caught a few of them encouraging themselves with pumped fists to celebrate their top shots.

“The clinic routine went as expected with a good game of tennis; forehand and backhand drills; fun; snacks during the break; and good, friendly rapport and networking amongst the children.”

Meanwhile, parents have continued to shower encomiums on the tennis section of Ikoyi Club for the clinic, which transits into a tournament on Saturday,

Mrs Chichi Amadu said, “This year, it’s top-notch. Every year it keeps getting bigger, and more kids are involved, so that’s why I said well done to the organisers and the coaches, because without them this won’t be possible.”
