The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Petroleum Retail Outlets Owners of Nigeria (PETROAN) at the weekend commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the appointment of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Rabiu Abdullahi Umar.
Speaking with The Nation on phone, IPMAN National President Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi described the appointment as a well deserved one, noting that Umar knows the challenges in industry completely.
He said the marketers are expecting him to perform better because he is not an outsider in the industry.
Maigandi called on the in incoming ACE to work with the Federal Government to support the independent marketers to build the $10 billion, 300barrels per day,
IPMAN Refinery and Petrochemicals Company Limited in Akwa Ibom.
Similarly, he urged him to pave the way for the marketers to participate in the development of the Compress Natural Gas (CNG) market.
His words: “He (Tinubu) knows all our problems and challenges and that is why we are expecting that he will do better. “He knows the challenges of the industry and he is not a new man in the industry.
‘‘We want him to encourage the independent marketers.
“To give government support in the construction of their refinery. It is $10 billion and half the capacity of the Dangote Refinery.

Now that CNG is coming, we need his support so that we can push in this CNG programme from Mr President. .”
Commending Tinubu on the appointment of Umar, PETROAN National President, Dr Billy Hary said the President must have done the due diligence before pronouncing the beneficiary as the new ACE.
According to him, PETROAN has no basis to discredit the appointment because Tinubu knows Umar better.
He, however, urged Umar to give all the operators in the industry a level playing ground to thrive.
“I congratulate the new ACE and we expect he will give everybody a level playing ground,” he said.
Asked to comment on the appointment, Hary said, “My comment will not be different from Mr. President analysis. Mr. President will not appoint somebody he has not reviewed.
“They must have reviewed security about him before he must have been given. So, they know where he is coming from.
“They know where he has worked and they have his antecedents and if Mr found him qualified, we will not make any comment against that.
“We ask him to look at things from a very passionate perspective to give Nigerians a better regulatory framework, enforcement of compliance value and ensure that every player is given a level playing field whether they are Dangote Refinery or other refineries or other marketers, or other retail outlet owners or logistics companies like NARTO, the tanker drivers that have been at the receiving end for a very long while.
“We are all working together as stakeholders to ensure that Nigerian oil and gas infrastructure is stable, is efficient and that Nigeria’s economy is that is driven by fossil fuel and does not grind to a halt.”
