Former Nigeria international Benedict Iroha has urged the Super Eagles to treat their upcoming international friendlies with utmost seriousness, insisting that matches involving Nigeria always carry great expectations.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face the Iran national football team and the Jordan national football team as part of preparations following their failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

Iroha, a member of Nigeria’s victorious squad at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, stressed that the label of “friendly” does little to reduce the importance of such fixtures.

According to the 56-year-old, the deep passion of Nigerian fans ensures that every Super Eagles game is treated with high expectations, regardless of its competitive status.

He also noted that the matches present a valuable opportunity for head coach Eric Chelle to experiment with new players and refine tactical approaches ahead of future competitions.

Despite the positives, Iroha acknowledged the lingering disappointment surrounding Nigeria’s absence from the next World Cup, describing it as a painful reality that these friendlies will inevitably highlight.

Nigeria will face Iran today before taking on Jordan next week, with both matches set to be played in Turkey.
