Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has applauded rising heavyweight star Moses Itauma following his emphatic knockout victory over Jermaine Franklin in Manchester.

The bout, staged at the Co-op Live Arena, saw Itauma deliver a commanding performance that underlined his growing reputation as one of boxing’s brightest prospects.

Despite Franklin entering the contest with a strong record, Itauma took control early and never relented.

The 21-year-old dropped his opponent in the third round before sealing victory with a devastating combination, prompting referee Steve Gray to stop the fight.

In the build-up, Itauma had spoken warmly about his recent visit to Akwa Ibom, reconnecting with his roots in Eket and praising the hospitality he experienced, comments that further endeared him to the local community.

Reacting to the victory, Governor Eno described Itauma as a symbol of resilience and pride for both Akwa Ibom and Nigeria.

“I am delighted. This is the true Akwa Ibom spirit. He is a worthy Nigerian ambassador,” the governor said.

Now unbeaten and rapidly climbing the rankings, Itauma is widely regarded as a future world title contender, with boxing analysts praising his speed, movement, and ring intelligence as elite-level attributes.

Speaking after the fight, the young boxer remained grounded: “I am just a young boy chasing a dream.”
