Silva raves over winger’s screamer

Alex Iwobi has described his spectacular long-range strike in Fulham’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur as “unique,” claiming the specific technique is a rarity in the modern game.

The Nigerian international doubled Fulham’s lead in the 34th minute, unleashing a first-time, 25-yard curling effort following a slick exchange with Harry Wilson. The ball rattled the inside of the post before settling in the net, providing the decisive cushion after Wilson’s early opener.

Reflecting on the goal, Iwobi noted that the strike was the result of consistent repetition on the training ground.

“Unique. I don’t think anyone else opens up their hip and hits it quite like that,” Iwobi said. “When the ball was laid back, I had only one thought. My teammates weren’t surprised because they see me work on that finish every day.”

Despite a 66th-minute response from Tottenham’s Richarlison, Fulham held firm to hand Spurs boss Igor Tudor his second consecutive league defeat. While the final minutes were tense, Iwobi insisted the Cottagers were the superior side.

“The score line makes it look tighter than it felt. We controlled the game and created enough chances to put it away earlier. It got a bit shaky at the end, but we showed the mental strength to see it through.”

This season, Iwobi  has made  22 league appearances  and has scored four goals including three assists.

Meanwhile, Fulham head coach Marco Silva was quick to laud his playmaker’s contribution, calling the strike one of the finest of Iwobi's career.

“It’s one of his best goals—he is truly capable of these moments,” Silva remarked. “Alex is at his most dangerous when he’s composed, picks a corner and executes with that ‘strong pass’ technique into the net.”

The victory bolsters Fulham’s push for European qualification, with Iwobi’s strike already being touted as a frontrunner for the Goal of the Month award.
