Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has described the stabilisation of the naira against the dollar as a significant achievement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, she said exchange rate predictability is critical for business planning, imports, exports, and overall economic performance.

According to her, the relative stability of the naira enables businesses to forecast costs and revenues more accurately, thereby reducing uncertainty associated with currency volatility.

She also commended the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, noting its potential to ease congestion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor in Ogun State, improve connectivity to the Eastern states, and strengthen trade linkages between the Lagos and Calabar ports.

Obasanjo maintained that improved economic coordination, increased international engagement, and strengthened security collaboration are contributing to a more stable environment for growth.

The former senator for Ogun Central, who recently declared her intention to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, said she is well-positioned to become Nigeria’s first elected female governor.

She cited Ogun State’s literacy rate and its history of female leadership, including figures such as Madam Tinubu and renowned Egba women warriors, as indicators of the state’s readiness for gender-inclusive governance.

Reflecting on the state’s political dynamics, she observed that Ogun West has not produced a governor since the creation of the state on February 3, 1976. She recalled that efforts by political leaders from Ogun Central, including her father, sought to facilitate the emergence of a governor from Ogun West but did not succeed.

Obasanjo expressed the view that without a consensus between Ogun East and Ogun Central to concede political ground, it may remain difficult for Ogun West to produce a governor in the near term.
