The Adamawa State House of Assembly has officially received the resignations of six of its members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Abubakar Abdullahi of Girei Constituency led the wave of exits, announcing his resignation on Monday, February 23, 2026.

He was followed by Deputy Speaker Hon. Mohammed Buba Jidjiwa (Jada and Mbulo Constituency), Hon. Kefas Kalvin (Toungo Constituency), Hon. Bulus Geoffrey (Leko and Koma Constituency), Hon. Haruna Jilantikiri (Madagali Constituency), Hon. Kefas Emmanuel (Song Constituency), and Hon. Ahmed Jingi Bele (Maiha Constituency).

The resignations came amid widespread speculation that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri may be preparing to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

While the departing lawmakers have not revealed which parties they intend to join, reports suggest that most of the 16 PDP members—now reduced to 10—along with key party executives and stakeholders, are expected to align with the governor in any potential move.
