Association of Heads of Federal Establishments in Anambra State has decried multiple problems facing workers at the Engr. Ebele Ofunneamaka Okeke Federal Secretariat Complex, Awka, Anambra State.

Chairperson of the association, Dr Blessing Ogbonna, said this while declaring open the body’s first meeting of the year held at the corporate office of the Industrial Trust Fund (ITF) in Awka.

She listed some of the challenges to include lack of functional toilet facilities, dearth of power supply, water, environmental uncleanliness, among others.Mrs Ogbonna regretted that the myriad of challenges had hindered workers’ effective performance, calling for urgent intervention.

Lending his voice, state Controller, Federal Ministry of Housing, Chief Sunday Eze, identified inadequate power supply to the Federal Secretariat as a source of worry to them.

Workers at the complex had several times complained of non-functionality of the toilets due to lack of water at the facility to flush toilets after use, describing the condition as unbearable.

They also lamented erratic power supply in the building, saying the ugly situation had continued to impede their productivity.

According to them, workers in the building had suffered such untold hardship since the inauguration of the building on March 24, 2023.

One of them, who preferred anonymous, said some directors and other heads of agencies had resorted to engaging water vendors, who fetched water for their offices to assist them with their conveniences.

“While some workers take advantage of the bushes around the complex to ease themselves when pressed, some endure the ‘burden’ until they return home for such call of nature,” she added.
