Councillors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have pledged to spearhead nationwide grassroots mobilisation in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

They made the declaration in Abuja during the Progressive Serving Councillors’ Forum of Nigeria 2026 national solidarity convention, themed “Towards Achieving Incontestable and Non-Reversible Victories in the 2027 Election through Aggressive Grassroots Mobilisation.”

The event brought together 8,122 councillors who are members of the Progressive Serving Councillors’ Forum of Nigeria.

The convention, facilitated by ITEC Consultancy Services, underscored the ruling APC’s strategy to consolidate its support base at the ward level.

Speaking at the gathering, the Forum’s General Secretary, Adeoye Adeniyi, said the councillors’ endorsement of the President was driven by what he described as impactful reforms and visible infrastructure development nationwide.

Adeniyi said: “We are here to declare our total support for Mr President in the 2027 general election. We are supporting him because of the reforms he has introduced. Across the country, major roads are under construction—not just federal roads, but even at the grassroots level.”

He added that federal policies are increasingly reaching local communities, strengthening confidence in the administration among grassroots leaders.

“The reforms at the national level are cascading down to the grassroots where we represent our people,” he said.

Adeniyi also highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) programme as a key intervention that has positively impacted citizens.

“Many of our people have benefitted from the NELFUND programme. This has never happened before,” he noted.

According to him, the alignment of national reforms with local governance has prompted councillors across Nigeria to unite in support of the President’s second-term ambition.

Also speaking, the convention facilitator, Ademola Abdulwakeel, said the primary objective of the gathering was to strengthen grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 polls.

“We brought them together so that they can mobilise support for Mr President for an incontestable victory in 2027,” Abdulwakeel said.

He expressed confidence that councillors, as the closest tier of government to the electorate, would play a decisive role in shaping voter behaviour.

“The councillors will go back to their communities and inform the people about the achievements of this administration. With that, the President will secure an overwhelming victory,” he added.
