The Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has dismissed reports suggesting opposition to Babajimi Benson's continued representation, describing the claims as misleading and unreflective of the area's residents' views.

In a statement issued on April 15, 2026, Aroyewun said a publication alleging that the Justice Forum opposed Benson’s continued tenure in the House of Representatives did not represent his position or that of the people of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA.

He stated that the claims were inaccurate and did not align with the prevailing sentiment within the council area.

The council chairman, who identified himself as a member of the Justice Forum, rejected attempts to attribute such views to the political group, noting that it operates through established structures.

Aroyewun said his engagements with residents, community leaders, youth groups, artisans, and other stakeholders across wards and Community Development Associations indicated strong support for Benson’s continued representation.

He attributed the support to what he described as consistent performance, accessibility, and visible impact.

The chairman highlighted several infrastructural projects linked to the lawmaker, including the construction of over 100 roads across the constituency and the ongoing 13-kilometre Offin–Oreta Road, which he described as a key economic corridor connecting multiple communities.

Within Igbogbo-Baiyeku, he cited projects such as Ilemere, Olu-Odo, Idi-Oro, Morekete, and Selewu Link Roads as examples of development efforts.

He also pointed to improvements in security and healthcare infrastructure, including the Smart Police Station in Elepe and the 80-bed Mother and Child Hospital in Imota, while noting ongoing plans for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Igbogbo-Baiyeku.

According to him, various empowerment initiatives, including the iCare FoodBank programme, educational grants, ICT interventions, NIN registration support, and youth empowerment programmes, had continued to improve residents' lives. He also mentioned that establishing IKD 106.1FM had strengthened information dissemination and amplified grassroots voices across the constituency.

Speaking on legislative performance, Aroyewun said Benson’s role as Chairman of the House Committee on Defence and sponsorship of over 50 bills further demonstrated his effectiveness.

“These are not promises. These are results,” he said.

The chairman stressed that the discussion around Benson’s continued representation should focus on continuity and consolidation of developmental gains.

“For me, this conversation goes beyond tenure. It is about continuity, consolidation, and sustained progress. Development is not accidental. It is built over time through relationships, experience, and capacity. Disrupting that momentum without compelling reason risks reversing hard-earned gains,” he stated.

Aroyewun also addressed the position of the Justice Forum, noting that the political group is known for responsible engagement and consensus-building rather than public contradiction.

“No responsible political group undermines a performing representative who has consistently delivered value to the people,” he said, adding that those interested in contesting should test their popularity through the democratic process.

“Rather than hide behind unfounded excuses or manufactured narratives, anyone who aspires to contest against Hon. Babajimi Benson should courageously present themselves at the ballot and test their popularity and acceptance among the people,” he added.

Aroyewun declared his support for Benson’s continued representation.

“I, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, stand firmly and unapologetically in support of Hon. Babajimi Benson,” he said. “At this critical moment, I urge our people to stay focused on what truly matters: development, stability, and progress.”

He concluded by urging residents of the Ikorodu Division to resist distractions and support continuity, noting that Benson had earned the trust of the people through service, delivery, and leadership.
