Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, representing Kosofe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has disbursed N36 million in grants to students and small business owners in his constituency.
Okanlawon, popularly known as OKLA, presented N100,000 each to 110 tertiary undergraduates and 250 small business owners under the Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde Okanlawon Scholarship Scheme. The event was held on Wednesday in Anthony Village, Lagos.
Addressing beneficiaries, the lawmaker said the initiative reflects a deliberate effort to support students across Nigerian tertiary institutions, adding that sustained collaboration would help expand the programme’s reach.
He noted that the scheme also prioritises small and medium enterprises for their role in economic growth and job creation. He said targeted support, capacity-building initiatives, and access to opportunities would strengthen local enterprises, drive innovation, and improve livelihoods, in line with a broader vision of building a resilient local economy.

Okanlawon used the occasion to seek support for his third-term bid, urging constituents to back Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat for governor and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.
Chairman of the scheme, Lekan Alli-Balogun, said the third edition has expanded into a broader empowerment initiative aimed at preparing young people for the future. He disclosed that 110 undergraduates were selected across wards in Kosofe I, while 250 small business owners also received N100,000 each.
Alli-Balogun added that the selection process was transparent and ethical, noting that the lawmaker did not interfere despite being a political office holder.
Also speaking, Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, commended the initiative, urging beneficiaries to invest the funds productively rather than spend them on consumption.
He described the grants as seeds capable of yielding meaningful returns if properly invested in businesses and livelihoods.
