The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has secured stakeholder backing for the transformation of the Ketu Lay-by (Demurin bound) into a modern bus terminal, in a move aimed at easing congestion and improving commuter experience along the Ketu corridor.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, said the agreement was reached during a high-level engagement with leaders of Agboyi-Ketu, where plans for the Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) Package 1 were finalised.

Musa, who was represented by the Director of Transport Policy and Coordination, Engr. Aderounmu Agbomeji, said the proposed terminal along the Ketu–Alapere–Akanimodo corridor would address persistent traffic bottlenecks and create a more organised and safer environment for commuters.

He stressed that the success of the project would depend largely on sustained collaboration between the government and the host community.

According to him, a formal agreement will be signed to ensure adherence to new operational guidelines, including the relocation of traders from road setbacks to designated market stalls to improve safety and traffic flow.

He added that non-regulated transport operators would be required to operate strictly within approved loading and off-loading zones to prevent a recurrence of gridlock in the area.

“The Ketu Modern Bus Terminal forms part of the state’s strategic transport master plan aimed at delivering an integrated, multimodal system that connects road, rail and water transportation,” he said.

Also speaking, Project Manager, Femi Fayombo, said contractors are set to mobilise to site, noting that the terminal represents an expansion of the initial project scope but has been prioritised by the state government to boost transport efficiency and enhance residents’ quality of life.
