Leadway Assurance Company Limited has reinforced its commitment to women empowerment through its Hersurred initiative, with speakers at a recent session emphasissing the need for balance, resilience, ans intentional living as critical tools for navigating career and personal life.

Hersurred, a platform designed to support Nigerian women through mentorship, skills development, and networking, convened professionals from diverse fields who shared practical insights on managing the pressures of modern life while striving for growth and fulfillment.

Adeyinka, a lead consultant and facilitator, set the tone for the conversation, stressing the importance of balance and focus in a fast-paced, noisy world.

“As a consultant, trainer, mother, wife, and sister, balance is the word,” she said. “Every skill you learn will be used across different aspects of your life. There is no silo. Simplicity is strategic, especially in a world filled with distractions.”

She urged women to resist the pressure of comparison, noting that individuality should guide personal and professional journeys. “Even identical twins don’t have the same dreams. Don’t be distracted by appearances because confidence comes from within.”

Also speaking, Dr. Chinyere of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry highlighted the importance of prioritization using the “glass ball and plastic balls” analogy, where certain aspects of life require more careful handling than others.

On motivation and resilience, she noted that strength must be consciously nurtured. “You cannot pour from an empty cup. You must build yourself to be able to impact others,” she said, adding that her personal source of strength is rooted in faith.

She further reframed the concept of work-life balance as “work-life negotiation” or “integration,” stressing that individual must recognise changing seasons in life. “There’s a limit to what you can do at any given time,” she added.

Adora, another panelist, warned against the dangers of living by external expectations. “Many times, we are running other people’s races,” she said. “To avoid burnout, you must decide who you want to be at each moment.”

From a communications perspective, Dr. Nkechi, a public relations consultant, underscored the importance of intentionality and understanding one’s audience. “To relate with the public, you must know who they are. Audience segmentation is key,” she explained.

Addressing questions on achieving balance, Dr. Nkechi noted that systems and support structures are essential. “You need people. You must delegate, be emotionally intelligent, and build financial independence. Stay in your economic lane; otherwise, imbalance is inevitable,” she said.

On burnout, Dr. Chinyere pointed to the unique pressures faced by women, particularly those juggling leadership roles and family responsibilities.

She advised women to identify activities that help them recharge. “For me, I destress by writing. Find what works for you,” she said, while also encouraging continuous capacity building as a pathway to growth.

In her closing remarks, Adora highlighted the different dimensions of burnout as emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual, urging women to cultivate self-awareness to address each effectively.

Dr. Nkechi called for a re-evaluation of societal expectations placed on women. “We must interrogate the scripts written for us and set boundaries. Self-discovery is essential to avoid burnout,” she said.

Adeyinka concluded the session with a framework she described as “GAIMMS” which is Govern your finances and your world, Accountability, Innovation, Networking, managing Naysayers, and building Systems and support.

Launched as a women-focused initiative, Hersurred continues to provide a platform for conversations that equip women with practical tools to thrive in business, career, and life, while bridging gender gaps through mentorship and skills development.
