The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Senator Barinada Mpigi, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large.

In a statement signed by its National Spokesman, Chief Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini, PANDEF said the late lawmaker was an icon who rose to prominence at a critical time when the Niger Delta needed experienced and dedicated leaders to address issues of marginalization and deprivation.

Senator Mpigi, who died at the age of 64, was praised for an outstanding legislative career marked by humility, intelligence, and commitment to service.

He represented the Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for two tenures before his election to the Senate in 2019. He was re-elected in 2023, becoming a ranking senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.

According to PANDEF, his track record of performance earned him respect among his colleagues at the National Assembly and across the country.

The group noted that as a ranking senator, Mpigi ensured that the people of Rivers South East Senatorial District and the wider Niger Delta benefited fully from his representation at the Red Chamber.

PANDEF lamented that his death comes at a time when the Niger Delta requires its “best hands” to confront longstanding socio-economic challenges. The group emphasized that the region has lost a rare gem and a blessing whose absence will be deeply felt.

It commiserated with his immediate family and the people of Rivers South East Senatorial District over the "irreparable loss," praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
