Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has condemned the killing of over 20 security personnel and local vigilantes in Garga, Kanam Local Government Area of the state.

The security personnel and local vigilantes died in an ambush laid by insurgents around 4 p.m on Saturday.

In a statement, on behalf of the governor, the state Commissioner of Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, said: “Their courage and dedication in the face of danger remain a testament to their commitment to the safety of Plateau communities.

”The administration of the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, remains resolute in its determination to safeguard the lives and property of all citizens. Government is working with the military and other security agencies to intensify surveillance, reinforce security presence, and strengthen response operations across vulnerable border communities.

”Residents of the affected areas and the public are, therefore, urged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while security operatives continue with ongoing operations aimed at restoring lasting peace in the communities.

”Furthermore, the state government is engaging traditional rulers, community leaders, and other critical stakeholders in Kanam Local Government Area to support ongoing peace and security efforts. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will assist in tackling security threats.

Also, the state All Progressive Congress (APC) has condemned the renewed violence in Kanam communities.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, wumanna Bako Manabe, in a statement, decried the rising spate of violence in the local government area and called for caution.

Manabe commiserated with the people of Kanam over recent bandits’ attacks,  adding that it received the news of the attack on the personnel and community defenders with shock and sadness.
