The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has appointed Kunle Olawoyin as its new Director of Communications, Policy and Advocacy, a move aimed at strengthening the organisation’s public engagement and environmental advocacy efforts.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the organisation said Olawoyin’s appointment took effect from March 2, 2026.

He will lead the foundation’s communications, policy and advocacy agenda in line with its 2025–2030 strategic plan.

Olawoyin previously served as Head of the Media and Public Affairs Unit at NCF between 2009 and 2015.

In his new role, he is expected to work across teams to amplify the organisation’s voice, influence environmental policy outcomes, and shape national and continental conversations around climate change, biodiversity conservation and environmental pollution.

Director-General of NCF, Joseph Onoja, expressed confidence in Olawoyin’s ability to drive the foundation’s communication and advocacy objectives.

Onoja said: “I have no doubt about Kunle’s capacity to deliver on this new challenge because of his depth of experience in communications, advocacy and campaigns, combined with his prior knowledge of NCF.

“NCF as the leader in environmental conservation in Nigeria is at the stage where we need more committed and highly skilled individuals to increase the visibility of our impacts, strengthen public engagement and enhance policy influence across board.”

Olawoyin is a communications and advocacy professional with extensive experience managing strategic campaigns and influencing policy at national and international levels.

A trained journalist, he began his career as a cub reporter with Rhythm 93.7 FM before working with National Interest Newspapers and National Mirror Newspapers where he gained experience in reporting, editing and news production.

Before his latest appointment, he worked with Oxfam Great Britain and Oxfam International as Media and Communications Officer.

He later joined Save the Children International, where he served in several roles including Media and Communications Manager for Nigeria, Regional Media and Communications Manager for West and Central Africa, and most recently Media Manager at the organisation’s Global Media Unit.

NCF said his experience in communications strategy and advocacy will help position the foundation as a leading voice on environmental conservation issues in Nigeria and across Africa.

Olawoyin holds a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from The Polytechnic Ibadan, a master’s degree in communication studies from Lagos State University, a Bachelor of Law degree from National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), and a Master of Law from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

He also holds professional certificates in advanced writing and reporting from Pan-Atlantic University.

Founded in 1980 by the late S. L. Edu, NCF is Nigeria’s leading environmental non-governmental organisation focused on nature conservation and sustainable development.

The foundation partners with global organisations including BirdLife International, Worldwide Fund for Nature, International Union for Conservation of Nature, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Wetlands International.
