Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has begun technical training sessions for its employees at the Corporate Affairs and Protocol departments in drone piloting, media content creation, video editing and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.

He hailed NDDC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for his commitment to leveraging emerging technologies to improve institutional storytelling.
He said the initiative was to empower corporate affairs personnel, who served as the image makers of the commission with the necessary skills to harness AI-driven creativity and modern media tools.

“The idea behind this is to empower and enhance the knowledge of our workers in corporate affairs, who are the image making personnel of the commission and by tapping into the creativity and innovation of AI they will be able to deliver well, and the commission will be able to tell our story clearer and better.”
He noted that equipping employees with the competencies would enhance content delivery and enable the commission to communicate its activities more clearly and effectively.
Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs department, Emmanuel Udonte, emphasised the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence in global communication.
He said while many in Africa had been slow to embrace such innovations, NDDC recognised the emerging technologies as indispensable tools for the future.
He said: “The world is going digital and AI cannot be pushed away. Most of the time in Africa, Africans take for granted so many things such as AI.
“In NDDC, we believe AI has come to stay. It is something that will rule the world, so we have gathered our people to be abreast with what it is all about. For this training, we are starting with the corporate affairs and protocol staff, and we have quite a number of personnel.”
Udonte explained that the training targeted corporate affairs and protocol workers as a starting point, with a significant number of personnel participating to ensure broad-based capacity development.
New Media Unit and Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Dr. Selina Dan-Albert, stressed the importance of adopting modern tools to meet the demands of fast-paced information management.
She described corporate affairs staff as the brand custodians of the commission, noting that the training would enable them to gather, process and disseminate information more efficiently.
“We are the brand bearers of NDDC. So we need to gather our information as quickly as possible. This is why we are engaging in this training”, she said.
