NESI Week advocates greater renewable energy adoption

Organisers of the 2026 Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry Week (NESI Week) have called for increased integration of renewable energy into the country’s power mix, aligning with the Federal Government’s policy direction toward reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Speaking at the unveiling of the 2026 edition of Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry Week, the Committee Chairman, Dr. Obiorah Anthony, stated that a key objective of the event is to advance discussions on making renewable energy more prominent in Nigeria’s electricity generation portfolio.
He said this will help Nigeria to reduce carbon emissions and encourage alternative sources instead of fossil fuels.

“The good thing is the government is already aligning in that direction. So, it's not like a coincidence; it is intentionally planned.”
While noting that the electricity market is not performing optimally, he said this is a result of several challenges, which the event will address.
“That's why we have the CEO and Policy Forum, where we are going to have industry leaders come to sit and discuss. Most importantly, we don't want just talking; we want commitment. So it is designed such that whatever commitment is made, we are going to follow through to ensure that, to a large extent, that is done.”
He added that the event will be conducted from November 15 to 22 in Abuja and will feature NESI Games, NESI Innovation Challenge, NESI CEO & Policy Forum, NESI Expo, and NESI Awards.
