In a move aimed at consolidating the recent progress of the Super Eagles, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee is set to meet with Head Coach Eric Chelle.

Central to the agenda is a review of his backroom staff, specifically the suitability of his current local assistants.

Currently, Nigerian tacticians Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu serve as Chelle’s domestic aides. However, the duo has faced scrutiny from critics who argue they have not added sufficient value to the technical setup. This perceived gap has reportedly led to Chelle’s heavy reliance on his handpicked foreign  backroom staff.

According to reports from SCORENigeria, the committee intends to engage Chelle in a "candid" dialogue to determine if he is satisfied with the current local synergy or if a reshuffle is required to better support his tactical vision.

Despite the backroom debate, Chelle’s position remains secure. Fresh off a successful 2025 AFCON campaign where Nigeria secured a bronze medal, the Franco-Malian tactician has one year remaining on his initial contract. High-level discussions regarding a contract extension are already underway, signaling the NFF's desire for continuity ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

In a parallel development, the NFF has officially declared vacancies in the leadership of the country's cadet and women's teams. Applications are now being invited for the following roles:U-23 Men’s Team (Olympic Eagles); U-20 Men’s Team (Flying Eagles);U-17 Men’s Team (Golden Eaglets) and U-17 Women’s Team (Flamingos).

The Technical Committee has set a strict one-week deadline for submissions.

Following this, a shortlist will be drawn for interviews to ensure the "best hands" are selected through a transparent process.

The vacancies arise following the conclusion of various tournament cycles.

The teams were previously led by: U-23 (Salisu Yusuf ); Flying Eagles ( Aliyu Zubairu, who recently moved to Telecom Egypt SC); Golden Eaglets ( Manu Garba) and Flamingos (Bankole Olowokere).

Notably, current Super Eagles assistant Daniel Ogunmodede is rumoured to be among the frontrunners applying for the Flying Eagles' top job, seeking a fresh challenge away from his dual role.
