No fewer than 2,000 women across Nigeria have been empowered through a skills acquisition programme organized by the Starladies United Business Women Initiative (NGO) under its Women One World Supporting Programme.

Speaking during the presentation of empowerment tools at the organization’s office in Anambra State, the President of the initiative, Mrs. Nkiruka Maryrose Duru, said the programme was designed to promote economic independence and sustainable development among women.

According to her, beneficiaries underwent a one-week intensive hands-on training in various vocational and entrepreneurial skills, including feed processing, drip irrigation installation, vegetable farming, tomato farming, soap making, and ICT security.

Mrs. Duru explained that each successful participant received basic start-up tools to enable them to immediately begin practical implementation of the skills acquired.

She described economic empowerment as a core objective of the initiative, stressing that women play a vital role as nation builders and contributors to economic growth.

“Women are nation builders. When you empower a woman, you empower a family and the entire community,” she said.

The Starladies President further highlighted the organization’s ongoing community project, the UBWA Women One World Estate, located in Umudiala Village, Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

She explained that the estate project specifically targets widows and women who face challenges in acquiring landed property and housing.

According to her, the project aims to promote property ownership among women, improve their standard of living, and enhance family stability.

The Starladies United Business Women Initiative continues to advocate for women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship development, and community advancement across Nigeria.
