Nigeria has recorded significant progress in expanding immunisation coverage and strengthening healthcare delivery systems to underserved populations, according to the 2025 Annual Impact Report of eHealth Africa.

The report, titled “Scaling Digital Innovations To Save More Lives,” highlighted key gains in vaccine distribution, digital health innovation, and improved access to essential healthcare services across underserved communities.

It noted that through targeted interventions and the deployment of digital health tools such as geospatial technology and the PlanFeld platform, Nigeria has improved its ability to reach more children with life-saving vaccines and strengthen primary healthcare delivery.

According to the report, a total of 5,477,540 vaccine doses and 2,935,775 units of dry commodities were delivered to health facilities across the country as part of efforts to strengthen last-mile vaccine delivery and cold chain systems.

The intervention also supported the immunisation of at least 1,802,609 children, contributing significantly to the prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases and improved child health outcomes nationwide.

eHealth Africa stated that its Vaccine Direct Delivery model helped reduce stock-out risks and ensured continuous availability of immunisation supplies at service delivery points.

The organisation also reported progress in strengthening health emergency preparedness, with the establishment and upgrade of six Public Health Emergency Operation Centres across Africa and operational support provided to 11 Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) in Nigeria.

These centres serve as coordination hubs that integrate surveillance data, laboratory findings, and field intelligence to support real-time decision-making during public health responses.

In addition, eHealth Africa completed the construction and upgrade of five laboratories across Africa, which were handed over to host countries to strengthen diagnostic capacity and national ownership. Beneficiary institutions include the Institut Pasteur de Côte d’Ivoire, the National Microbiology Laboratory, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, and the Kenya Medical Research Institute, among others.

The report further highlighted improvements in primary healthcare infrastructure through the solarisation of 238 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across 12 states in Nigeria.

The initiative addressed persistent power challenges and enhanced service delivery at the grassroots level.

According to the organisation, the solar-powered PHCs are now recording increased patient turnout, with some facilities handling up to three times their previous service volume, alongside improved immunisation uptake due to reliable cold chain systems.

In his remarks contained in the report, Executive Director of eHealth Africa, Atef Fawaz, said 2025 marked a period of significant transformation for the organisation’s work in Nigeria and across Africa.

“The year provided an opportunity for eHealth Africa to evolve from a project partner to a trusted systems operator and leader in the digital and public health space.

“In 2025, we made significant strides in improving access to quality healthcare services across Nigeria. Through targeted interventions and innovative technologies, more people were able to access life-saving care.”

He appreciated partners, staff, consultants, and donors for their contributions, adding that the organisation would in 2026 focus on disease-driven priorities, strengthening core health systems, and supporting government-led scale-up of impactful interventions.

The report reaffirmed eHealth Africa’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s health sector reforms and expanding equitable access to immunisation and essential healthcare services through innovation and collaboration.
