Nigeria's Ambassador to Egypt, Musa Dauda (CDA), has praised Team Nigeria's performance on the opening day of the Senior African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt.

The team delivered a commanding display in the qualifying rounds on Friday, setting up four finals — with more expected — as Nigeria maintains a strong chance of retaining its continental title and potentially claiming a 15th African championship, particularly in the women's category.

Speaking to journalists in Alexandria, the ambassador said he was impressed by the team's showing, adding that he did not anticipate such a performance, even against the host nation.

"This is the spirit of Nigeria. I'm extremely proud of what they have done. I never knew Nigeria had this force in wrestling.

"We have started mobilizing the Nigerian and student community in Egypt, and we believe the support would be massive going into the crucial stages," he said.

Ambassador Musa also commended the support provided by Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) President Bashir Adewale Adeniyi to the contingent, describing the Comptroller-General's passion for athletes' welfare as satisfying. He pledged to consolidate that support through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ambassador was joined by Ishaya Garba Senchi, Nigeria's Minister for Economic Trade and Investment to Egypt, and Aisha Mustapha, Head of Chancery, to cheer on Team Nigeria.
