A compelling and deeply reflective photography exhibition is currently drawing visitors to The Banks Mill Studios, 71 Bridge Street, Derby, United Kingdom, DE1 3LB, where ROSES by Derby-based Nigerian photographer Olamide Bakare is on display from February 28th to March 13th, 2026.

Olamide, a Nigerian creative art photographer based in Derby, UK, has worked professionally as a photographer for over 15 years. Known for crafting artistic images that evoke emotion and tell layered stories, his practice spans portraiture, lifestyle, and architectural photography. His work is defined by a thoughtful interplay of light, texture, and human presence, blending technical precision with cultural depth and personal vision.

ROSES is a poetic convergence of light, shadow, and form, an intimate meditation on femininity, nature, and presence. In this body of work, rose petals become both veil and crown, concealing and revealing, protecting and proclaiming. The body emerges not as spectacle, but as a symbol where vulnerability and strength coexist in quiet harmony.

Shadows sculpt the figure into something timeless, suspended between softness and power, mystery and grace. Light does not expose, it honours. Darkness does not hide; it dignifies. Together, they shape portraits that feel less like images and more like feelings.

ROSES is not about the body as object, but the body as poetry.

Not about being seen, but being sensed.

Not about beauty as decoration, but beauty as presence.

The collection invites viewers into a contemplative space, encouraging them to reflect on identity, dignity, and the layered meanings of femininity and form.

The weekend opening event was well attended, attracting visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds across Derby and beyond. The atmosphere was vibrant yet intimate, with thoughtful conversations unfolding around the themes of vulnerability, strength, and artistic expression.

The exhibition has made a tangible cultural impact. It has provided Derby’s community with access to contemporary fine art photography that bridges African perspective and British cultural space. Visitors have described the exhibition as moving, bold, and emotionally resonant, sparking dialogue across generations and backgrounds.

By presenting work that challenges conventional representations of the body while maintaining dignity and artistic integrity, Olamide contributes to the evolving cultural landscape of the UK. His exhibition reinforces Derby’s growing identity as a creative hub in the Midlands and demonstrates how art can foster understanding, reflection, and unity within diverse communities.

Alongside his artistic practice, Olamide remains committed to creative mentorship and workshops, believing strongly in photography’s power to connect, empower, and transform lives.

ROSES continues to welcome visitors until March 13th, offering the public an opportunity to experience a body of work that celebrates beauty not as ornament, but as presence — quiet, powerful, and profoundly human.
