A philanthropist-cum-politician, Hon. Azeez Oladapo Yusuf, popularly known as Nino Agege, has declared his intention to run for the Agege 02 seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress (APC) umbrella.

Yusuf made the declaration on Wednesday at Power Line Praying Ground in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area before a mammoth crowd of APC faithful and residents, some of whom were beneficiaries of a medical outreach organised by the aspirant earlier that day.

Addressing the crowd, the APC chieftain said his aspiration was born out of his love for his community, saying it's devoid of self-interest and personal aggrandisement.

"I stand before you to declare my intention to contest for the Agege 02 seat in Lagos House of Assembly on the platform of our great party, the APC.

"My aspiration is not driven by personal interest but by the common good: the urge to contribute to the development of Agege from the position of strength by being your representative in the House of Assembly, championing your cause and driving government projects and programmes to our dear community," Yusuf said amidst cheers.

"I won't stop being Nino Agege, famed for giving scholarships to indigent students and catering to the poorest of the poor. Instead, I would scale my charity up if elected, while my legislative duty also shares the front burner," he added.

The declaration speech was subsequently greeted by a warm reception as the gathering of the APC faithful and some Agege residents voiced their endorsement of the aspirant's aspiration.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Hon. Tunji Owokalade said the Assembly hopeful, if elected, would do Agege proud.

"Nino is a man of the people who spends his hard-earned money on the less privileged. He has been doing this for time immemorial.

"For us in Agege, this is a payback time; we would not only be getting effective representation if we elected Nino, but we would also be rewarding him for several years of service to the community without having access to public funds," Owokalade stated.
