No sanctuary for terrorists in Nigeria, says COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops of the 4 Special Forces Command to intensify high-impact operations to decisively defeat terrorists and insurgents across the country.

Shaibu spoke during his maiden visit to the command in Doma, Nasarawa State, yesterday, Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, said in a statement.

She said the COAS reminded the Nigerian Army Special Forces of their critical role at the forefront of efforts to dismantle criminal networks threatening national security.

Addressing personnel of the 4 Special Forces Command and Nigerian Army Special Forces School, he stressed the need for precision-driven and intelligence-led operations to dominate the battlespace.

The Army Chief urged troops to remain proactive, adaptive and mission-focused, noting that the evolving security environment demanded speed, surprise and superior combat readiness.

“The era of reactive engagements is over,” he said, warning that terrorists and violent criminals would find no sanctuary anywhere in Nigeria.

Gen Shaibu received briefings from the Commander, 4 Special Forces Command, Maj.-Gen. Olurotimi Azubuike Awolo, and Commandant, Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Brig.- Gen Umar Faruk Abubakar.

He expressed satisfaction with ongoing operations and training standards, approving the construction of more accommodation and critical facilities to boost training, operational efficiency and troops’ welfare.

He assured officers and soldiers that their welfare and that of their families were priority, pledging sustained investment in training, logistics and modern combat enablers to maintain operational superiority.

The visit featured a tree-planting exercise within the cantonment to promote environmental sustainability.
