The Nigeria Premier Football League rolls into a decisive Matchday 36 with tension, permutations and tough clashes across centres. From relegation dogfights to title-defining encounters, this weekend promises drama at every turn as teams fight for survival, continental slots and ultimate glory.

In Minna, Niger Tornadoes face Kwara United in what is a classic relegation six-pointer. The Ikon Allah Boys, sitting 14th with 43 points, are desperate to halt a three-game winless run, while the Harmony Boys, two places below but level on points, arrive with renewed belief after back-to-back home wins and a solid draw in Ibadan against Shooting Stars. With both sides locked on 43 points, this clash could be pivotal in shaping their survival fate.

Aba will host another high-pressure encounter as Enyimba welcome Remo Stars. The People's Elephant, 13th  with 43 points, are in unfamiliar territory and must secure victory to steady their campaign. The Sky Blue Stars, the reigning champions, are surprisingly 16th  also on 43 points, making this a must-win fixture for both sides. Adding spice to the tie is the return of coach Usman Abd'Allah to Aba, where he once guided Enyimba to league glory in 2019.

In Yenagoa, Bayelsa United face a daunting test against league leaders Rangers International FC. The Prosperity Boys, 19th  with 40 points, are clinging to survival hopes and need a turnaround after consecutive defeats. The Flying Antelopes, top of the table with 59 points, cannot afford to slip if they are to maintain their grip on the title race, especially after their costly draw against Barau FC.

Port Harcourt offers another blockbuster as Rivers United take on Abia Warriors. The Pride of Rivers, second with 58 points, are firmly in the title hunt and will hope to capitalise on any slip by Rangers. However, the Umuchineke Boys, fourth with 55 points — level with third-placed Ikorodu City but behind on goal difference — remain in contention for a continental slot and will be determined to avoid defeat in this tricky away fixture.

In Owerri, relegation-threatened Kun Khalifat (18th, 40 points) must go all out against Kano Pillars to boost their survival hopes. Despite Kano Pillars' relatively safer tally of 45 points, they are not entirely out of danger, making this another high-stakes affair.

The situation is equally tense in Ozoro, where Warri Wolves, 17th  with 43 points, host Plateau United. The Wolves' poor second stanza has dragged them into the relegation zone, and only a win will suffice. Plateau United, ninth with 47 points, are closing in on safety and could secure it with a positive result here.

In Ibadan, the Oluyole Warriors appear to have a clear path toward continental qualification. Fifth with 54 points, Shooting Stars will aim to build on their morale-boosting win in Maiduguri against El-Kanemi Warriors as they host Nasarawa United. The visitors, sixth with 53 points, are equally motivated, knowing a good result could reignite their own continental ambitions.

Kano will witness Barau FC — the Maliya Boys — take on El-Kanemi Warriors. Barau FC, 10th with 46 points, are pushing for safety and confidence is high after their Kano FA Cup triumph. El-Kanemi Warriors, 11th  also on 46 points, must avoid defeat to prevent slipping further down the table.

In Benin City, the Benin Arsenals welcome Katsina United. Bendel Insurance, seventh with 52 points, are comfortable but will look to consolidate their position with a home win. Katsina United, eighth with 49 points, still need at least one more victory to be fully assured of safety.

With just three games remaining after this round, every point counts. Matchday 36 could well define the title race, shape continental ambitions and decide which teams retain their top-flight status.
