Ikorodu City recorded a crucial 1–0 victory over Rivers United in their rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 30 clash at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos yesterday, strengthening their push near the top of the table.
The “Oga Boys” had earlier held the Pride of Rivers to a goalless draw in Port Harcourt in the reverse fixture, but approached the return encounter with greater urgency, fully aware that a win would propel them above Nasarawa United into third place on the standings with 48 points.
The first half proved to be a tactical battle as Rivers United’s compact defensive structure frustrated the hosts, denying Ikorodu City clear scoring opportunities. Despite enjoying spells of possession, the Lagos side struggled to break through the visitors’ disciplined backline before the interval.

The breakthrough eventually came seven minutes into the second half when substitute Folarin Temitope made an instant impact. The forward capitalised on a scoring opportunity to fire home the decisive goal, sparking wild celebrations among the home supporters and the Ikorodu City bench.
The victory means Ikorodu City secured four points from their two meetings with Rivers United this season. It also improved their recent record against the league leaders, having now won two, drawn one and lost one in their last four encounters with the Port Harcourt side.
Attention now shifts to their next fixtures, with Ikorodu City set to travel to Owerri this weekend to face Kun Khalifat, while Rivers United face a demanding run of away matches, beginning with a trip to Niger Tornadoes on Thursday before another difficult outing against Nasarawa United in Lafia on Monday.
