The Executive Chairman, National Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, yesterday reassured stakeholders that the National Single Window (NSW) platform will not take over the functions of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), but rather enhance their operations.

Adedeji gave the assurance during a press conference held at the NSW Support Centre in Lagos on Tuesday, where he addressed concerns surrounding the implementation of the initiative.

He commended the collaboration among government agencies and private sector stakeholders that made the project possible, reemphasising that the platform is designed to reduce the time and cost associated with import and export transactions, while improving transparency and overall efficiency in the system.

According to him, the NSW is a unified digital platform designed to integrate processes across various government agencies, with the aim of eliminating duplication and improving efficiency in trade operations.

“The National Single Window is not taking any MDA’s job. It is simply creating a coordinated system where agencies can work smarter, faster, and more transparently. The platform is built to promote collaboration among agencies, not to replace their roles,” he said, adding that the initiative would streamline procedures, enhance transparency, and facilitate easier access to trade-related services for businesses operating in Nigeria.

Adedeji also announced that, effective from tomorrow, the NSW portal would become the major access point for processing import permits, licenses, and certificates.

The platform will cover key regulatory agencies, including the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), as well as manifest submissions.

He described the rollout as a significant step towards modernising Nigeria’s trade infrastructure and improving the ease of doing business in the country.

The NRS chairman added that the government remains committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the new system, with continuous engagement and support for all stakeholders.

The NSW initiative is part of broader efforts to leverage technology in strengthening institutional efficiency and positioning Nigeria for greater competitiveness in global trade.
