NWFL: Bayelsa Queens stay top  as Abia Angels hit Ahudiyannem Queens  for five

The concluding fixtures of the first stanza in the NWFL Premiership delivered drama, goals, and significant shifts across both groups as Matchday 9 wrapped up yesterday.

In Yenagoa, Bayelsa Queens returned to winning ways with a composed 2–0 victory over Ekiti Queens to remain top of Group A with 21 points.

Bankole Sofiat opened the scoring in the 24th  minute before Delight Isaac sealed the win in the 55th  minute.

Despite sharing the same 21 points, Rivers Angels remain second due to goal difference after edging Edo Queens 2–1 in Port Harcourt. Abasiofon Uwah was the heroine for the Jewels of Rivers, scoring twice in the 14th and 45th minutes, while Atume Doosuur had earlier equalised in the 26th  minute for Edo Queens, who sit third with 18 points.

Adamawa Queens consolidated fourth place with 13 points following a 2–1 victory over Heartland Queens in Makwada. Omon Afensimi netted a brace (18’, 55’), while an own goal by Immaculate Paul briefly levelled matters.

In Abuja, Naija Ratels secured their first win of the campaign, defeating Pacesetter Queens 1–0 courtesy of Omeje Chukwube’s 48th -minute strike.

Group B leaders FC Robo Queens suffered a damaging 4–2 defeat to Nasarawa Amazons in Lafia, cutting their lead at the top to just three points.

Sunday Ohunene opened scoring as early as the 2nd minute before Joy Iortyom equalised in the 14th  minute. Ayatsea Hembafan restored Nasarawa’s lead in the 16th  minute, and Jumoke Alani extended it in the 40th. Bibiana Odoh made it 4–1 immediately after the restart (46’), while Rafiu Tosin pulled one back in the 76th minute.

The result moves Nasarawa Amazons into third spot with 18 points.

Remo Stars Ladies climbed firmly into second place, also on 18 points, after an emphatic 3–0 victory over Dannaz Ladies in Lagos. Aishat Animashaun bagged a brace (14’, 75’) before Daniella Fagbenro added a late third in the 86th  minute.

Abia Angels continued their impressive push, thrashing Ahudiyannem Queens 5–2 away in Aba to remain fourth with 17 points. Winner David stole the headlines with a first-half hat-trick (12’, 28’, 43’). Blessing Saleh (83’) and Obianuju Akwubo (87’) completed the rout, while Chiwendu Orji and Tobi Oghenerugba scored for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Osun Babes and Delta Queens settled for a 1–1 draw in Ile-Ogbo. Favour Damaris gave Delta Queens the lead in the 19th minute before Tabitha Terlumun equalised in the 44th minute. Confluence Queens and Sunshine Queens played out a goalless stalemate in Iyamho.

With the first stanza concluded, the title race in both groups remains delicately poised as teams prepare for the decisive second half of the season.
