Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on student leaders to regard leadership as a responsibility to serve and uplift others rather than a platform for personal gain.
Offering guidance on effective leadership, he stated that a true leader must be both an achiever and an actualiser, someone capable of translating vision into measurable outcomes.
Obasanjo spoke during a four-day Students’ Leadership Training organised by the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute in partnership with the University of Lagos, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He urged participants to anchor their leadership pursuits on integrity, resilience and a commitment to service, stressing that these values remain indispensable to sustainable impact.
"You must see leadership not as a privilege but as a duty to serve and uplift others. A true leader must be an achiever and an actualizer, someone who turns vision into reality," he said.
He presented his renowned "55 Objectives of a True Leader," highlighting attributes such as achiever, actualizer, analyzer, arranger, communicator, decision maker, encourager, enquirer, friend, and giver.
He further emphasised 15 Core Values of Good Leadership, including integrity, honesty, dependability, patriotism, orderliness, tolerance, trustworthiness, and peace.

UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, thanked Obasanjo for his contribution to leadership development.
She said: "We are deeply grateful to His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for his legendary and monumental contribution to leadership development in Nigeria.
“This training has provided our student leaders with the tools and values required to lead responsibly in a rapidly changing world."
She lauded the leadership of the institute, including the Director/Chief Executive Officer, General Martin Luther Agwai(Retd) and other members of the board, for organising the programme.
The training featured an impressive lineup of facilitators drawn from academia, civil society, mental health, finance, law, business leadership, and transformational leadership development. Their sessions complemented Obasanjo's keynote and provided practical, real-world tools for effective leadership.
